Crafty fun in a teenage boudoir

The Craft comes across as a larky installation of objects and paintings by Emma Talbot and Cathie Pilkington, which purports to document the doings and beliefs of an isolated cult. Although they're described as tableaux, the works are more like shrines, and are heavy on the kind of female bric-a-brac that can be seen in car boot sales, charity shops and skips - the effect being that of a deranged, teenage boudoir.

The cult seems to venerate a left-field femininity which, judging by the number of mirrors it owns, is obsessively self-admiring.

The paintings, by Emma Talbot, incorporate elements of the tableaux within them - a clever idea which compounds the fun. Neal Brown
