It’s fashion, honestly

 No-one puts the soul into shoes, clothes and handbags like the French fashion photographer Jean Lariviere. Since Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Charles Jourdan are just a few of the brands to have acquired added commercial clout through his theatrical touch, it's hard to believe he started his career with a yoghurt advertisement.

 His shots of beautiful people acting out bizarre fantasies expose the premise of advertising with brazen frankness, as our retrospective shows. No-one needs a luxury handbag; sensationalism is the best way to entice. Elaine Hake
