A new Goon show

An Eisner Award-winning cult hit, Eric Powell's The Goon is one of the most imaginative and entertaining comic series going: a genre-busting fusion of horror, black humour and film noir that's anchored on Powell's gorgeous, atmospheric art. An original graphic novel linked to the series (and excellent jumping-on-point), Chinatown gives the back-story for the eponymous character, a grim muscle-bound mob enforcer of an unnamed town that's infested with all manner of supernatural beings. With the story altogether more introspective and pathos-driven than the knockabout main series, Powell's use of washed-out watercolours and sepia tones provides a suitably bittersweet but consistently powerful dynamic.
