If those extra 360 lines of clarity matter to you, Mouse's advice is to either wait for newer players to reach the market later this year, or buy a PlayStation 3 which plays Blu-ray discs and comes with three important advantages: it's cheaper than a standalone player; it can be upgraded to support the latest technology; and your kids will love you for it because it plays games.
Alternatively, you could take the ultimate long view, and wait to see whether any kind of disc has a future in a world of internet downloads.
