Democratic presidential candidate Senator John Edwards is, if only on the internet, in the shadow of his wife, Elizabeth. Since the couple announced they would continue their quest for the White House despite her "incurable but treatable" stage IV cancer, it is she who has inspired bloggers, especially those with, or touched by, cancer. "Americans have probably discussed the family's choice more than anything else Mr Edwards has done during the campaign thus far," says Ari Melber on The Notion

Frank Rich's column in the New York Times is copy-pasted everywhere on the blogosphere, frequently without additional comment, because, according to Truth, Justice and Peace Blog: "As always, Frank Rich distills the essence of the issue at hand."

Rich argues that Mrs Edwards manages the authenticity that rivals crave: "For all the lip service Washington pays to valuing political players who are authentic and truthful, it turns out that real, honest-to-God straight talk about matters of life, death and, yes, political ambition, drives 'some people' (to use Katie Couric's locution) nuts."
