The beautiful ones

For those who hanker after the bygone glamour of the mid-20th Century, this retrospective of vintage prints by the forebears of commercial fashion photography will no doubt hit the spot. Simple, classic, elegant - these are beautiful images of beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes: the basic recipe that we're still falling for to this day. Among the pedallers of these aspirational images were Horst P. Horst, he of the oft-imitated Mainbocher Corset (see the music video of Madonna's Vogue for one), Life photographer Nina Leen, and Vogue regular William Klein. Whatever you want to call their work - be it art, advertising or both - you've got to admit it's gorgeous to look at.
