Sixties glamour is back with Biba

Biba is back, an announcement that stops the hearts of fashion lovers of a certain age. The Biba boutique (1964 - 1975), founded by Barbara Hulanicki, mixed Art Nouveau with Victoriana and old Hollywood, and no shop or fashion movement has ever been able to compete in the glamour stakes. Brigitte Bardot, Raquel Welch, Mick and Marianne, Twiggy and Julie Christie all shopped there, but everything was cheap as chips. The point was high fashion for all.

Now the iconic name has been relaunched by fashion entrepreneur Michael Pearce. Bella Freud has reworked some classic Biba designs including balloon-sleeved blouses and silk crepe skirts and the results are beautiful. So is the jewellery (by Fiona Knapp), the hats (by Christine Bec) and the shoes (by Tony Capriello), but prices are hefty.
