War cartoons with front

Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Bill Mauldin produced war cartoons when he was a young GI serving in Europe from 1940-45. His work was beloved both by his Army comrades (who adored the insubordinate humour) and those back home in the US (for whom it provided an intimate view of the struggles overseas). This handsome two-volume set contains Mauldin's complete works from this period - more than 600 strips featuring his famous characters Willie and Joe, most of them unseen for decades - and serves as an essential chronicle of WWII military life. He excels at capturing the details of battlegrounds, army slang and, in particular, the progressive physical toll of war, as faces prematurely age and the creases of uniforms deepen.
