sticking their oar in? Or because, if they actually paid attention to all this market economy philosophising, they wouldn't have anything to do?
It isn't just politicians. Bankers, estate agents, house builders and business suits have all jumped aboard the preferential treatment bandwagon, demanding tax breaks here and subsidies there. Perhaps it's the fault of political correctness. Perhaps, after 40 years of pressure groups claiming to speak on behalf of ethnic minorities, the poor, sexual minorities and women, it was only a matter of time before the white rich heterosexual male would want his slice of the victimhood pie.
Maybe human nature really wants its quick fix. Maybe humanity craves victimhood.
But victimhood, alas, demands big government, and, however convincing Dr. Butler's book is, I can't actually see it influencing the people who matter. This book, sadly, won't change your life.
