Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone

So the government is 'poised' to give teachers the power to search pupils for drugs and knives as they come in to school. It seems a bit of an infringement on a pupil's liberty. I mean, what kind of a country are we living in?
If I was a pupil I'd stop going to school: it sounds like a criminal infringement on a child's right to do drugs and kill other pupils. This should be taken all the way to the European Court
For Human Rights.
I like however the use of the word 'poised', i.e. at this stage it's only a threat.
Last week a friend who lives in South London took her little girl - due to start secondary education in September – to her new school to have a look around. As she parked the car it was swiftly surrounded by pupils who began bombarding it with sticks and cans.
A thousand worlds away I went with another friend to collect her son from school in Chiswick. The playground was
