UK surrealism? Weird
The idea that there could be good British surrealist art is sometimes thought similar to the idea that there could be good British wine. Everyone thinks the quality stuff only comes from abroad. But British Surrealism was (and British wines are) proveably good, even excellent. And although our Surrealism movement never came up with premier cru surrealists like Magritte or Dali, British work was still highly unique. This show at MIMA gallery has some outstanding examples from an esteemed private collection. It includes not only strange and fine works of art - by Conroy Maddox, Henry Moore, Roland Penrose and others - but also rare ephemera and fascinating curiosities
