Zoom in on the latest Lumix

4 out of 5

This isn't the smallest compact around, but behind the Leica-branded lens lies an impressive 10x optical zoom. Equivalent to a 28-280mm lens on an SLR, that's wide enough for architectural shots and to also get close enough to snap further away details - complete with image stabilisation to reduce camera shake. Controls are clear and simple and there's a good feature set too. It's not quite as quick to switch on as we'd like, and detail in pictures is slightly softened by some fairly hefty noise-reduction smearing. But that zoom, great quality pics and 3in preview screen mean that the TZ5 gets a thumbs-up from us.
