Finding their Marbles?

Athens' new Acropolis museum
The new Acropolis museum in Athens is "not only a dazzling piece of modernist architecture", says Mark Hodson in the Sunday Times, but "the latest gambit in a 200-year campaign for the return of the Elgin Marbles". This "astonishing" three-storey construction seems "to float" above the ground; the interior is flooded with natural light, and the exhibits, covering more than 2,000 years of history, have plenty of "room to breathe". "It
feels more like a temple than an exhibition space." The Greeks hope that this truly world-class space will force "a change of heart in London", but whether the British Museum can "be persuaded to give up one of its biggest crowd-pullers, only time will tell". The museum opens in November.
