Blissful solitude

Rou Estate, Corfu
There's something about the Rou Estate that's reminiscent of a movie set, says Stephanie Rafanelli in the Guardian.
This tiny hilltop "boutique retreat", which sits six kilometres inland amid 17 acres of olive groves, was a derelict hamlet until a "meticulous restoration project" transformed it into a cluster of secluded five-star holiday homes.
Many original features, including fireplaces, wood ovens and paved courtyards, have been retained, with "discreet
touches of modernity" added here and there. From the terrace, the sweeping views of the Ionian Channel far below give you a sense of "blissful solitude".
