Analyse these!

These strange, busy, coloured drawings are what critics might call neo-surrealism. But whatever they're called, they're very powerful and strong. There's a great energy to them which, even if not always comfortable, is compelling. The artist, Jorge Queiroz, is Portuguese, but the mood of the work is not a sunny holiday one: it's fraught, melancholy, anxious and worried - and completely indecipherable. Trying to analyse the works doesn't seem to lead anywhere, other than to the idea that this is a job for Sigmund Freud. As the meaning is beyond reach, it's probably best just to hold on tight and enjoy the ride.
