Helmut Newton

Newton’s lore

When Helmut Newton was unceremoniously (and temporarily) sacked from French Vogue after a spat with the editor in 1964, it didn't knock him askew as you might expect. Instead, it fostered fruitful working relationships with various other glossies such as Elle, Nova and Marie Claire. And it's these fashion shoots from the Sixties and Seventies that are brought together here, in a showcase of classic Newton images. His trademark fancy for strong, sexy women who are almost masculine in their attitude appears again and again - with erotically charged nudes and assertive, mischievous models who party, have tantrums and (as above, from Nova, 1973) even nurse hangovers with exceptional style.
