Hotel of the week: Jumbo Hostel

jumbo hostel stockholm airport

Rooms at the end of the runway

The idea of sleeping in a jumbo jet parked on the end of a runway at Stockholm's busiest airport is "gloriously absurd", says Tam Leach in the Independent. It's also handy if you have an early morning flight to catch. But it's the sheer "kitsch appeal" of the Jumbo Hostel that wins you over.

Part of the PanAm fleet in the 1970s, it has been refurbished

in "the glamorous style of its heyday". Staff wear retro airline outfits; mood music tinkles away in the top deck lounge; and you can even take coffee out on to the wings. Rooms are "comfy" and less cramped than you'd expect.

Triple rooms £112; dorm beds £29; cockpit double room with en suite bathroom £275. Contact 0046 8 593 604 00; www.jumbohostel.com
