Hotel of the Week: The Mission Hall

Isle of Wight's warm tradition
The Mission Hall was built in the 1890s to provide "spiritual care in the community" to the people of Blythe Shute, on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Its new owners have turned it into a holiday home – but you can still feel the "open, warm tradition" in which it was conceived, says Catherine Mack in the Observer. It's there in the open-plan design, the old wood-panelled walls and the stained-glass windows; new furnishings, "kitsch" but lovingly
detailed, only enhance it. There are four double-bedrooms, "gorgeous" bathrooms and "some of the best coastal walks in the country" nearby.
