Top Gun’s Kelly McGillis admits to being gay

The star of three of the biggest movies of the 1980s comes out as a lesbian at age 51
Kelly McGillis, the actress who won millions of male fans across the world when she played the love interest in the iconic 1980s film Top Gun, has come out as a lesbian. The girl who lit Navy pilot Tom Cruise's afterburners says that at the age of 51, and after two failed marriages, "I'm done with the man thing. You need to move on in life."
McGillis made her name with three big films roles in the 1980s, performed in swift succession: the young Amish widow in Witness opposite Harrison Ford, Cruise's training instructor in Top Gun, and the lawyer for a gang rape victim played by Jody Foster in The Accused.
In an interview with the lesbian website Shewired.com she said that coming out was "an ongoing process from the time I was probably 12".
She added: "I had a lot of things happen that convinced me that God was punishing me because I was gay." These incidents included her being attacked and raped as a young actress in her New York apartment in 1982.
Like her co-star in Top Gun, she has long been plagued by rumours about her sexuality, despite two marriages - first to Boyd Black and then to the Californian millionaire Fred Tillian, with whom she had two daughters before divorcing in 2002.
Until now, she has always denied she was gay, despite a further outbreak of rumours when she appeared in the US lesbian drama The L Word in 2007.

Ms McGillis, in her two hetero marriages, was just a victim of the right wing churches terror campaign called the closet. But the closet is ending. No longer will gay people be victims of hate filled churches whose only true goals are control, power, and of course money. I'm glad she had the guts to come out. She is the perfect example to counter the California queen of homophobia. And I bet a whole lot more people like her will follow. It is possible that a good percentage of divorces - maybe 20% of the conventional marriage divorces, are due to people who "societal pressure and parents expectations, mixed with closet terrorism", pushed them into a marriage of lies. told to me by the 5 formerly conventionally married people I know who are gay, when I asked them why they got hetero married in the first place. Come out wherever you are. And the result will be the so called "rapture, or end of days", except what will end is the power of the religious hate groups, as they are terribly disgraced for the world to see.
