Abstract fun with Nozkowski
These works are highly pleasurable: inventive, clever and humorous, and well worth taking a look at. Thomas Nozkowski is a 1970s abstract painter from the US who never stopped working away and now enjoys favoured attention, helped, in part, by his inclusion in the last Venice Biennale. Choosing Nozkowski must be a win-win situation for curators; not only does his work resonate with the contemporary art world, whose retro-ironic sensibilities are amused by it, but it also commands genuine respect because of Nozkowski's intelligent wit and sincerity of emotion. Such combinations are rarely encountered these days, which means that this is a significant show.
