Venus & Serena through to final

Serena Williams; Venus Williams

The Williams sisters took very different routes to the Centre Court showdown, their fourth such meeting at Wimbledon

Saturday's women's final at Wimbledon will feature both of the Williams sisters, the fourth time they have contested the All England Championship between them, but Serena was taken to three sets in her semi-final while Venus won her match in less than an hour.

Serena Williams, a 10-time Grand Slam winner, had to play almost three hours to defeat Russian Elena Dementieva 6-7, 7-5, 8-6 in the longest semi-final of the Open era at the tournament.

Meanwhile her sister Venus beat the Number 1 seed Dinara Safina 6-1, 6-0 in a one-sided encounter which took just 52 minutes during which the Russian won just 20 points.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
Richard Jago, the Guardian: "From the moment Safina went on court having just said 'I have to enjoy it and play my best tennis - it's the only chance I have', it appeared that she never thought she could win. It was embarrassing. Safina had Williams at break point down in the third game, at which stage the title-holder launched a flashing serve at 125mph. The Russian was then 40-15 up on her own delivery before finding the American's return was becoming as potent as her serve, denying her four points in a row and costing a double break."

Simon Barnes, the Times: "It's an all-Williams final. Again. Deal with it. There is no one better. Each of the Williams sisters, each in her different way, played an extraordinary match in the semi-finals on Centre Court yesterday, and each showed that when it comes to the sharp end of a grand-slam tournament, the name Williams gives you an insuperable advantage. Serena Williams was pushed every step of the way in a marvellous match with Elena Dementieva, and had to save a match point on the way as she won 6-7, 7-5, 8-6. Dementieva played the better tennis, but what's that got to do with anything when you've got a Williams on the other side of the net?"

Ian Chadband, Daily Telegraph: "Those crying out for anything but another sister act would have been encouraged from the start by an opening game in which Dementieva earned an immediate break with the help of one breathtaking backhand cross court pass. Williams, though, responded with vigour, rasping a backhand winner of her own down the line to set up the break back. It was not, however, the signal for her to begin to dominate even when Dementieva went 3-4 and 0-40 down in the first set, having thrown in her first double fault. "
