Hotel of the week: Oaxen Krog, Sweden

Hotel of the week: stay in boats and revisit the 1930s, an hour south of Stockholm

FIRST POSTED SEPTEMBER 9, 2009

Located on a tiny island an hour’s drive south of Stockholm, the Oaxen Krog has earned a reputation as one of Sweden’s finest restaurants since its launch 15 years ago. Last spring, its proprietors opened guest rooms, too, says Stephen Whitlock in Conde Nast Traveller.

The new accommodation is a delight: guests stay in the cabins of a Thirties boat, the Prince van Orangien, moored at the original premises. Each is "compact, but completely comfortable", with modern details like iPods scarcely detracting from the "era-appropriate" decor.

Oaxen Krog (00 46 8 551 53105) - doubles from £110.
