Hotel of the week: Gourmet food and cookery classes in a 17th-century farmhouse with a view

FIRST POSTED NOVEMBER 5, 2009

This "relaxing, luxurious" B&B will win a special place in foodies' hearts, says Kate Simon in the Independent on Sunday. Not only are there "generous breakfasts" and excellent "five-course gourmet tasting menus" on offer in the dining room - but guests can take "convivial" cookery classes, too, led by the owner's daughter, a chef who trained at London's Le Cordon Bleu.

Housed in a 17th-century stone farmhouse in the foothills of the Peak District, it enjoys "spectacular" views across the Cheshire plain. Décor is "smart yet homely", the rooms are pleasant and there is a converted barn for self-catering parties of up to six. Doubles from £85, B&B. Contact: 01625-560085; harropfoldfarm.co.uk
