Bikini alert: Katie Price goes back into the jungle
But what happens if she meets another man, asks ex-husband Peter Andre, who should know
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the living room, Katie Price, aka glamour model Jordan, is to return to the reality television show that made her even more famous than she was before, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! She's is being paid a record fee of £350,000 and becomes the first celebrity to go into the Australian bush for the popular ITV show twice.
The reason she's doing it, she says, is to persuade the public that she's not as bad as the tabloids - and her former husband Peter Andre - have been making out. "It will help me communicate with the public directly and not through third parties," she is reported to have told a friend.
It was during her first appearance on the show, in 2004, when she cavorted in a white bikini, that she and Andre met. They began an affair and have barely been out of the gossip columns or off the TV screens since - through their marriage in 2005, the birth of their first child, Junior, the same year, and a second, Princess Tiaamii, in 2007, and their break-up and divorce earlier this year.
Throughout most of this, they have appeared in a fly-on-the-wall TV series, which became one of ITV2's most watched shows.
But it has been Andre, who was a little-known Australian pop has-been when he appeared on I'm a Celebrity and fell into Jordan's arms, who appears to have gained most from their notorious relationship. In between looking at endless pictures in the papers of his ex-wife with her new new boyfriend, cage-fighter Alex Reid, he has managed to rebuild his pop career.
This week, Andre won substantial damages from Now magazine after successfully suing its publishers in the High Court for accusing him of lying when he claimed to be a loving father to his children. He is understood to have received £300,000 from Now: it may be £50,000 short of his ex-wife's fee, but at least he doesn't have to go back into the jungle to earn it.
Now, of course, it is Price whose love for her children is being called into question. A friend of Andre's told the Daily Mail that he was furious when he heard about her new deal with ITV. "This time, Katie has gone too far," the friend said. "Peter feels that she has not adequately organised childcare.
"Her mother Amy will look after the children and Peter will help, but he feels that it was entirely inappropriate, especially as Harvey [his stepson, born to Price and her former boyfriend Dwight Yorke in 2002] and Junior have been unwell.
"And what will happen if she falls for someone in the jungle again - why should her children be made to watch that?"
This one will run and run [though possibly not on The First Post - ed].
