Curiouser and curiouser

A beached mermaid, Alice in a desert wonderland and a man taking a turkey for a stroll are some of the bizarre sights you'll come across in Lara Baladi's brazen series Oum El Dounia (The Mother of the World). The images were originally part of one large, kaleidoscopic collage that portrayed a hybrid creation myth, concocted out of multicultural references from Europe to the Middle East. See for yourself on the final page of this gallery. For all the colour, symbolism and child-like playfulness, one thing is clear: Lara Baladi is enjoying herself immensely.
