Monkeying around

Jeff Koons is right in there with the kids; having fun, engaging with pop and comic book culture, and indulging in a bit of anarchic disorder. But at the other end of the scale, he takes the making of his art to the furthest lengths of perfectionism - investing it with a meditative intensity that is almost neurotically religious.

For example, the lobster on the next page is a painted aluminium cast - not plastic at all; and the paintings, while random-looking, are actually agonisingly planned with the aid of computers, then executed by teams of assistants. At these two shows, you can have a seriously good time.
