There were about 100 people waiting in line for Apple's iPhone at their flagship New York store yesterday. Watching them were at least twice that many members of the press. And watching them were hundreds more New Yorkers, taking pictures on their now-inferior-looking mobile phones.
The glass-cube of a store, usually open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, shut between 2pm and 6pm, when the fanatics were to be allowed in to spend $499 for the four gigabyte model or $599 for the eight gigabyte version.
Starbucks were giving out coffee, Godiva were giving out chocolate, Krispy Kreme chipped in with donuts and Aqua Fina water sent a giant grey dog mascot with water  |
