Up the garden pathFortnum and Mason never shies away from advertising its heritage as a national institution, but with their summer windows they're in danger of caricaturing themselves - and us. We're in an English country garden where characters from a PG Wodehouse novel might nibble delicately at cucumber sandwiches and sip afternoon tea on the immaculate lawn. If only. Hats destined for Ascot and ingredients for a summer picnic lie before giant topiary, shaped into teapots and candelabra, and imperious garden gates. The English cliches are charming, of course, but remember to take them with a pinch of salt. Holly KyteDesigned by Paul Symes
