All the fun of the festival

Visiting Edinburgh during the Festival is a heady challenge that everyone should experience; this breathtaking city's deluge of offerings allow complete immersion, day and night, in all kinds of art, for a month. The dance programme homes in on American mavericks, led off by the Royal Ballet of Flanders performing the celebrated William Forsythe's unorthodox Impressing the Czar, whose central hip-cracking ballet section has been seen to effect in Covent Garden with Sylvie Guillem and Darcey Bussell. The media-savvy Scottish Ballet gives a premiere by Stephen Petronio, followed by the company of Trisha Brown - the veteran modernist who likes to send her dancers walking up walls. Fill any gaps on the Fringe, choosing from scores of international productions - the Tbilisi Marionettes' unforgettable 'Battle of Stalingrad', for instance.
