New photographers meet in Battle

There have always been plenty of reasons to visit Battle if you like history - 1066, for one - but now there's something to lure modern photography enthusiasts as well. The Independent Photographers Gallery has launched a new competition, fronted and judged by Terry O'Neill, which gives less well-known snappers the chance to showcase their work. And the standard displayed by the new talent matches O'Neill's big name - the short-listed artists at this exhibition ooze quality and originality, from the graceful self-portraits of runner-up Clare Park to the surreal comedies of winner Nicolas Ferrando. Remember their names: for once, it's not the city that's got its finger on the pulse.
