All the young dudes
Like many new painters, Phoebe Unwin seems to have been admiring - and heavily raiding - 1960s and 1970s children's book illustration. The moods and colours are those of, say, Eric Carle, Brian Wildsmith or Raymond Briggs, but the subjects are of the kind that might appeal to a fashionable young woman - cool chicks hanging out on the phone, young dudes wearing shades, and posing fashionistas are heavily featured. Unwin is a recent graduate of the Slade, and her work is undoubtedly appealing; it's psychologically mysterious, in a very entertaining way, and this show should be well worth taking a look at.
