The dazzle is in the details

So, you have your Annie Hall wide-legged high-waisted trousers, your tailored 40s pencil skirt, your neat little waisted jacket and your gold snakeskin D&G shoots. But ladies, unless you are correctly accessorised, all your efforts will be as naught. The right bags, belts, scarves and hats define waists, flatter decolletage and add je ne sais quoi, but jewellery is particularly transformative.

So, trawling London Fashion Week I was on the look-out for wide, waist-cinching belts, reasonably priced (non-It) bags, and bold, beautiful yet inexpensive jewellery. I loved Opika's belts and Alison van der Lande's bags, which come in candy colours and every size from vanity to overnight. My eye was also caught by Palma Collection jewellery, made from vegetable ivory, dyed in vibrant colours and strung on cotton.

Transform your look with bold, beautiful, affordable accessories, says laura tennant

Kimberly Golding's Deal and Wire label makes beautiful bags, belts, jewellery and shoes (I'm loving the Aristera in blue suede). Hot young designer Bex Rox is well worth a look for her covetable, statement pieces in velvet ribbon, semi-precious stones and gold or silver-plated chain, as is the glitzy tribal collection from Mawi; and Stephen Webster's diffusion line, Glam Rocks, features seriously posh-looking jewellery in silver, Swarovski crystal and zirconia to satisfy your inner duchess.

For gorgous, chunky jewellery in semi-precious and organic materials, Pebble, are very next season Matthew Williamson - and they'll restring beads on to silk if requested. Ethnic not your thing? Cuffs (so slenderising on the wrist) are still a big accessory story. In other words, leave the throwaway tack to the teens and grab yourself some affordable bling.
