Classic cut-ups
Linder Sterling, better known just as Linder, is a feminist artist who started out in the 70s punk and post-punk scene. Though a period of great creativity, it was not famous for treating women as co-equals, and it's good that her importance has finally come to well-deserved wider attention. Although she worked as a musician and performance artist, she is best known for her photomontages which are - and let's not be shy about it - completely and utterly brilliant. Feminist themes such as the body, domesticity and sexism are present in all periods of her work, elevated through her wit and style to something timeless and universal.
