Is Ted Turner the anti-Christ? The man who invented cable news with CNN, and was once married to Jane Fonda, is suspected of plotting apocalypse on America's Great Plains. Why else has he been buying up huge amounts of land since cashing out his billion-dollar holdings in Time/Warner?

After snapping up another 26,300 acres of Nebraska last week, Turner now owns more than two million acres. He is America's largest landowner and most of it is where the buffalo once roamed - New Mexico, Nebraska, Montana and South Dakota.

There lies the rub. Turner's motives are deemed to be dark: he is buying all the land above the Ogallala Aquifer because he who owns the water has the power on the drought-stricken
