The team behind
The Pearce Sisters is none other than Oscar-winning Aardman Animations - of
Wallace and Gromit fame. You might well be surprised: Luis Cook's first feature film for them (multi-award-winning in itself) is a far cry from those cosy plasticine goons. Lol and Edna Pearce are a wonderfully warped pair of spinsters who eke out a lonely existence on the weather-beaten coast - occasionally netting hapless gentlemen and smoking them like kippers. It's not just the macabre plot, though, that makes this a superb and unusual addition to Aardman's canon - it's the angry linear drawings, murky sea-green palette, howling atmospherics and minimal dialogue that make it such a gloriously sinister yet droll tale of female isolation.
