Peter Popham

began his life in journalism as a schoolkid on a notorious issue of Oz, moved to Japan and wrote a book about Tokyo (The City at the End of the World), and covered wars, disasters and coups in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan for the Independent before moving to his current post as its Rome correspondent.
