Man admits suitcase murder

A man has confessed to the murder of a British woman whose torso was found in a suitcase by a motorway in Brazil. The remains of 17-year-old Cara Maria Burke from south London were found on Tuesday in the city of Goiania. Fire crews are still searching for her head, arms and lower legs.

It is thought that Ms Burke had travelled to Brazil to marry Mohamed D'Ali Carvalho Santos, who has now confessed to her murder, Brazillian police say. It is thought the marriage may have been planned to secure a visa for Santos, and police believe he may have been angered because she changed her mind.

The two met in London three months ago. According to reports in the Brazillian media Ms Burke was identified after a friend in London recognised a photograph of a distinctive tattoo on her body shown on a Brazillian satellite TV channel.
