Son of the Teflon Don arrested
John Gotti, former head of the notorious Gambino crime family, has been arrested in the US and charged with crimes relating to murder and drugs trafficking. Dozens of FBI agents swooped on Gambino's Long Island home in the latest round in an extraordinary game of cat and mouse with an indictment alleging that the Gambino family publicly shot, stabbed, beat and murdered three men between 1988 and 1991 to "create and maintain fear and dread in others". Six men have been charged.
Forty-four-year-old Gotti has claimed to have ended all involvement with the mafia after spending 1999-2005 in jail for racketeering. His lawyer said he was frustrated by the continued campaign against him which has included three mistrials for an attack on Curtis Silwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels vigilante group
The Gambinos were once one of the five great New York mob clans, run by John Gotti Sr, known as the Dapper Don for his taste in hand-made suits, or the Teflon Don for the FBI's repeated failure to prosecute him.
