ITV journalist arrested in Beijing
A British journalist has been arrested by Beijing police after he covered a Free Tibet protest near the National Stadium. ITV News's China correspondent John Ray said he had been "roughed up" by officers after he was pushed into a police van and driven away.
Speaking by phone from the back of the van, he said: "They dragged me, pulled me and knocked me to the ground. Now they are filming me." Police officers could be heard in the background, asking "What's your opinion on Tibet?" Ray replied: "I have no opinion on Tibet. I am a journalist."
Police were filming a number of journalists at the scene. Up to eight Free Tibet protesters were also arrested, although Ray has since been released, the British embassy said.
