Nato begins crisis summit on Russia
Nato members have gathered in Brussels for crisis talks on Georgia, as a defiant Russian Army showed no sign of withdrawing its troops. Nato foreign ministers will today try to work out the best way for the alliance to respond to Moscow's military action.
Analysts say that major differences remain among Nato leaders as to how far they should go in seeking to punish Russia. Britain, the United States and many Eastern European countries are among those pressing for a tough stance but Germany, France and others are reluctant to alienate Moscow.
The Georgian government last night claimed that Russian troops were still trying to take more territory, including the Caucasus's mountainous heartland.
