Body tissue found in Fossett wreck

Californian investigators say they have discovered human remains in the wreckage of billionaire adventurer Steve Fossett's plane in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

An aerial rescue team found the missing adventurer's Bellanca aircraft 10,000ft up a mountain after a hiker discovered several of Fossett's belongings in a bush, more than a year after he disappeared. The hiker, 43-year-old Preston Morrow, came across Fossett's pilot licence, several other identification cards and $1,005 (£570) in cash on Monday.

Morrow eventually alerted authories, who sent an aerial search team on Wednesday to look for Fossett's plane. They reported seeing a crashed aircraft. America’s National Transportation Safety Board confirmed yesterday morning that the wreckage "appears to be the aircraft piloted by adventurer Steve Fossett".

Last night officials revealed that a "very small" amount of human tissue had been found in the wreckage, but enough to provide coroners with DNA.
