Jersey police chief suspended over ‘shambolic’ £4.5m inquiry
A £4.5 million inquiry into child abuse on Jersey has been described as a shambles after the island's chief of police was suspended over his role in the bungled investigation.
Jersey's new Minister for Home Affairs, Andrew Lewis, suspended Graham Power from duty with immediate affect after a new inquiry team dismissed suggestions that children had been tortured and murdered at the Haut de la Garenne children's home.
The two officers who took over the investigation in August when deputy police chief Lenny Harper retired yesterday discredited many of Harper's findings. These included a fragment of 'human' bone which turned out to be a piece of Victorian coconut shell and 'shackles' found in rubble which were found to be a rusty lump of metal.
