India raises security status to war level
The Indian government has raised the country's security footing to a "war level" in response to the terror attacks last week which killed at least 172 people in Mumbai. India said it had certain proof that the attackers were linked to Pakistan.
In response, Pakistan said it would be forced to end military operations against Islamic militants on the Afghan border in order to deal with any threat from India. It also condemned the killings as a "barbaric act of terrorism". However, the group India accuses of the attacks, Lashkar-e-Taiba, has been linked to Pakistan's security forces before.
Meanwhile, the chief minister of Maharashtra state has offered to resign after the authorities were criticised for their handling of the attacks. The state's Home Minister has already resigned, and there are claims that not all the gunmen have been found.
Indian police say they have in custody one of the gunmen, a 21-year-old Pakistani, Ajmal Amir Kasab.
