Police shoot man dead in Guildford
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating after police shot and killed a man outside Guildford cathedral yesterday. The man was shot at about 3pm yesterday afternoon after Surrey police received a report of an armed man.
A spokesman for Surrey police said: "We deployed armed officers following a report from a member of the public of an armed man. Police attended and the man was subsequently shot. The investigation was referred to the IPCC, who are conducting an independent investigation into the incident."
The area around the cathedral has been sealed off and the IPCC investigators are at the scene. IPCC Commissioner Rebecca Marsh said: "My condolences to the dead man's family and friends. I would like to reassure the man's family, the public and the police officers that the IPCC investigation will be thorough, proportionate and timely."
