Brinkley’s court case victory
Christie Brinkley, the former supermodel, has agreed to pay her fourth husband more than £1 million in an out-of-court divorce settlement. Both sides claimed it as a victory, but Brinkley, who instigated the divorce proceedings after he husband had an affair with an 18-year-old girl, will get custody of their two children. She will also keep 18 disputed properties in the Hamptons on Long Island and in the Turks and Caicos islands.
The settlement was reached after an all-night legal session in which the couple and their legal teams occupied separate suites at a hotel. Peter Cook, an architect, will receive $2.1 million and time with the children under an agreement mutually satisfactory to both parties.
After the settlement was announced in court, Brinkley, 54, who was wearing peace symbol earrings, said: “It's to me a very bittersweet moment because it really is the death of a marriage. I'm very pleased with the results today. I was here fighting for custody.” Meanwhile, Cook, 49, said: “It's everything I asked for.” Everyone happy, then.
