In brief: Grace Jones awarded Idol Award by music magazine

Grace Jones (pictured), the singer and actress, has been honoured for her services to the music industry at the Q magazine awards, held last night in London. Living up to her eccentric reputation, she received the gong – an Idol Award - wearing a hooded cloak and black eye-mask, complete with horns. Other winners included David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, who dedicated his Outstanding Contribution to Music award to his late bandmate Richard Wright, who died from cancer last month…………. Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter are to star in a Disney version of Lewis Carrol's book Alice in Wonderland, to be directed by Tim Robbins, Bonham-Carter's husband. The Hollywood Reporter says Hathaway will play the White Queen while Bonham Carter will play the Red Queen………… Letters by writer JB Priestley from the trenches of World War I have been published for the first time. They present a different view of the playwright's war experiences compared to his morale-boosting BBC broadcasts during World War II. In one, he says he returned home from the front with "a chip on my shoulder - probably some friend's thigh bone". The letters have been published to mark the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day............British film actress Minnie Driver has posted photographs of son Henry Story Driver, born in September, on her MySpace page. Driver, 38, has yet to reveal the identity of the baby's father but has said he is English and that he will be part of the boy's life…………. Clint Eastwood has claimed the actress Angelina Jolie has been hampered in her career because of her looks. Speaking at the premiere of Changeling, which Eastwood directs and in which Jolie stars, he said the actress's talents are easily overlooked because she has "the most beautiful face on the planet"……….. Sherry Jones's book, The Jewel of Medina, which prompted a firebomb attack on its British publishers two weeks ago, leading to the publication being put on hold, has been published in the US. The novel follows the life of the prophet Mohammed's child bride Aisha, including the first night of their marriage, which has angered fundamentalist Muslims……….. Actor David Duchovny, who plays a womanising writer in the television series Californication, has completed a rehabilitation programme for sex addiction …………. Comedienne Tina Fey's impersonation of the Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has done wonders for the ratings of the US satirical show Saturday Night Live. Through the first four weeks of its season, SNL has upped its audience by nearly 50 per cent………..
