Boris governs London from a yacht in Turkey

During the course of his campaign to become Mayor of London, Boris Johnson claimed that he would “work flat out” for Londoners should he be elected. So it's perhaps not surprising that his decision to go on holiday just a few weeks after his election on May 1 – he is currently enjoying a family yachting holiday on the Dalaman coast in Turkey – has caused raised eyebrows among the more churlish toilers at City Hall, who fear this laissez-faire approach could become a common occurrence.

Says one: “Unlike Ken, who was a control freak, he has appointed and hired all these advisors and deputy mayors. Because of this, he can afford to take off as much as time as he wants,” says a source.

However, a spokesman for Johnson insisted that the mayor, despite his leisurely appearance - he has been spotted wearing a pair of loud, red and white patterned swimming shorts – is masterminding operations via his mobile phone, governing the city with twice daily calls to his office. That’s all right then.
