In brief: Austen’s real-life Mr Darcy

A watercolour of James Lefroy (pictured), the man believed to have inspired Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice character Mr Darcy, is expected to be sold for £50,000 at this year's Grosvenor Antiques Fair; the couple's relationship was portrayed in last year's film Becoming Jane, with Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy... A new restaurant opened by Gordon Ramsay in Los Angeles has been criticised for being too timid and sub-standard by the influential LA Weekly food columnist Jonathan Gold: "As the mastermind behind Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsay might want to take a look at what's happening in the restaurant that bears his name," he wrote... Actor Rupert Everett has apologised for branding soldiers "wimps" and saying they were "always whining about the dangers of being killed"; he said he was trying to make the point that "we still go to war, but actually we haven't the stomach for it"... Actress Honor Blackman, famous for playing Pussy Galore in the early Bond film Goldfinger, and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood are among those gathering in Westminster this afternoon to release 42 balloons in protest at Gordon Brown's plan to extend the detention limit to 42 days in suspected terror cases... Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone has told former members of his team at City Hall that he plans to run again for the mayoralty in 2012...
