In brief: Astaire’s dancing partner Cyd Charisse dies

Cyd Charisse, the actress and dancer, died of heart failure last night in Los Angeles aged 87. Fred Astaire, who appeared with Charisse in The Band Wagon (pictured) and Silk Stockings, once said of their screen partnership: "When we were dancing, we didn't know what time it was"… Joan Rivers, the 75-year-old American comedienne, had to be removed from a broadcast of Loose Women at ITV’s London studios after she proposed, on air, that Australian actor Russell Crowe was a "fucking shit"… Lady Jacqueline Killearn's butler, who as The First Post reported yesterday took his employer to an industrial tribunal claiming unfairly dismissal, won his case yesterday; however, Paolo Sclarandis received only £1,200 in compensation, rather than the £200,000 he had sought. "I can’t say I'm over the moon," he said...
