In brief: singer Amy Winehouse has emphysema

Amy Winehouse, the singer, has developed the lung condition emphysema and has been warned by doctors that she will die if she continues smoking drugs. In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, her father, Mitch, said the incurable illness, which leaves sufferers struggling for breath, was diagnosed when his daughter (pictured performing for the opening of Daria Zhukova's Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow earlier this month) had series of health checks in hospital... Sky News presenter Kay Burley, who while reporting Naomi Campbell's court appearance was caught up in a media scrum and ended up grabbing the throat of a photographer, could face legal action for assault... The Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is to return to acting, starring alongside Sylvester Stallone in a Bollywood movie... President Nicolas Sarkozy has been much criticised for his "bling bling" look, Rolex watches and rayban sunglasses and flashy designer suits. Fortunately, his wife Carla Bruni, a former supermodel, has taken the old fashion disaster in hand and given him an image makeover. "I have quite austere taste, and he is more sober now. This is important for someone in his position," she insists in an interview with the left-wing daily newspaper Liberation.
